Designed for experienced mountaineers seeking a summit challenge in a reduced timeframe, this expedition uses supplementary oxygen support to facilitate a faster and more efficient ascent. Although the duration is shorter, the physical demand is high, so being in excellent shape is essential.

ABOUT THE ROUTE

The Normal Route is technically easy. The hardest part is the altitude. This is why our Express Ascent program with Oxygen addresses this optimally for a shorter duration. The approach to
Plaza de Mulas is a long walk of almost 40 km. After a rest day in base camp, we begin the rapid ascent to high camps, using oxygen from Plaza Cólera (5970m) to improve acclimatization, recovery, and performance. We will ascend towards the summit (6962m). On
Aconcagua, sometimes the presence of «viento blanco» (white wind/blizzard) makes the ascent difficult, and it is in these cases that we use the extra safety day, increasing the chances of reaching the summit.

12-Day ITINERARY normal route

Day 01 · MENDOZA – Altitude: 760 mts.

Our expedition begins in Mendoza, Argentina. On your arrival to the international airport in Mendoza, an INKA Expeditions representative will be waiting for you. After receiving you, he will drive you to your Hotel. On this day we go you to the INKA EXPEDICIONES office to finalize all expedition arrangements and the submission of the ascent permit and a group meeting will follow and you will be introduced to your guides and team members.
Accommodation: Hotel double or triple room / Transportation: Airport – Hotel in
Mendoza.
Day 02 · Mendoza / Puente de Inca / Confluencia – Altitude: 3390 mts.

This day begins very early. Around 6:00 a.m., we’ll depart in a minibus for our Logistics Center in Puente del Inca. There, we’ll organize the gear, which will be transported by mules before entering the park through the Horcones entrance. We’ll present our permits at the ranger station and begin a 4- to 5-hour trek to camp at Confluencia.

Day 03 · Approach from Confluencia to Plaza de Mulas – Altitude: 4300 mts.

After an early breakfast, we say goodbye to Confluencia and begin an 8-9 hour hike, crossing the “Playa Ancha” and climbing the steep “Cuesta Brava”. We arrive at Plaza de Mulas, the largest campsite in Aconcagua Park, a true town in the heart of the mountain. The staff will receive us with a welcome meal well deserved after the effort made.

Day 04 · Rest day at Plaza de Mulas – Altitude: 4300 mts.

This day at Base Camp is a rest day and a good time to take a shower and explore the area. Together with the guides, we’ll plan the ascent and the transport of gear. The imposing west face of Aconcagua and the surrounding mountains will provide the perfect backdrop for a relaxing day.

Day 05 · Ascent from base camp to Camp 1 – Altitude: 5050 mts.

The next morning we begin our ascent to the high camps on Aconcagua. We move to Camp 1, called “Plaza Canada”. Up to this point we have been working on achieving optimal acclimatization and it is time to take advantage of this.

Day 06 · Ascent to Camp 2 – Altitude: 5550 mts.

Camp 2, called «Nido de Cóndores», is located at 5,550 meters above sea level and offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. We will spend the next two nights at this campsite.

Day 07 · Acclimatization day at Camp 2 – Altitude: 5550 mts.

This day we’ll focus on improving our acclimatization to the altitude. The guide will suggest different activities depending on the group’s fitness level. We’ll also take this opportunity to rest and give our bodies more time to adjust.

Day 08 · Ascent from Camp 2 to Camp 3 – Altitude: 5970 mts.

From Nido de Cóndores, we begin an approximately 4-hour hike to Camp 3, located on the North Ridge. At this camp, we will set up our tents, eat, and rest, ensuring we are in optimal condition for our summit attempt the following day. There, we will find the oxygen (two tanks per person) that we will use the next day during the summit ascent.

Day 09 · Summit day – Altitude: 6962 mts.

This is the most demanding day of our expedition. We leave very early from Plaza Colera Camp (5,970 m) heading for the summit. During this day, we rely on supplemental oxygen, which significantly improves the efficiency of the ascent and recovery.
Each participant must carry their own tanks and summit push backpack. We will head along the north ridge to the Independencia Refuge (6,500 m), cross the «Portezuelo del Viento», climb «La Canaleta», and follow the «Filo del Guanaco» (Guanaco’s Edge), which leads us to the summit of Aconcagua.
At the end of this unforgettable experience, we descend directly to Plaza de Mulas
to rest and celebrate.

Days 10 · Reserve day in case of bad weather conditions.
Day 11 · Return from base camp to Puente de Inca and back to Mendoza.

After breakfast, we begin the descent from Plaza de Mulas to Puente de Inca. A private transfer will be waiting for us to return to the hotel in Mendoza.
Transportation: Horcones – Puente de Inca – Mendoza – Accommodation: Hotel in Mendoza double or triple room – Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Box.
Day 12 · Mendoza

NOTE
The proposed itinerary can be changed due to weather conditions or other forced situations that put in risk the group security. The guides have the authority to change the program according to their criteria. You can be sure the changes have two fundamental objectives. These are to maximize the security and the summit chances. And they are based on our guides knowledge and experience.
