Mt. EVEREST: BASE CAMP TREKKING 7 SUMMITS CHALLENGE

Mount Everest, the highest mountain on planet Earth, with an altitude of 8,848 meters above sea level. It’s located on the Asian continent, in the Himalayan mountain range, specifically in the Mahalangur Himal sub-mountain range; marks the border between China and Nepal, considered to be the highest border in the world.

The Everest base camp trek is one of the most famous in Nepal and it is an excellent experience that brings us closer to the highest peak in the world.

We fly to Lukla to begin the trek to the Everest base camp. This tour leads through beautiful valleys full of vegetation and fauna, the land of the legendary Sherpas and to the Sagarmatha National Park. The trek to Everest Base Camp is not only famous for its proximity to the highest peak in the world, but also for the friendliness of the Sherpa people, the highest Buddhist monasteries, the picturesque Sherpa villages and the wide variety of cultures and traditions. .

Since the first ascent of Everest, the Khumbu region has enjoyed international attention. We will follow in the footsteps of Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary and the classic route to Namche Bazar, Khumjung, Pangboche and Labuche to Everest base camp and continue to Kalapathar. From Tengboche to Pangboche (3,985m), the path rises through meadows where yaks graze. After reaching the sandy plain of Gorakshep, we will climb among the huge rocks of the Kalapathar summit (5,545m), which offers the best panoramic view of Everest and the Khumbu glacier. After the visit to Kalapathar, we will have the opportunity to visit the Everest base camp.

After spending a great time at the base camp, we will begin the trek back to Dingboche. Whether it’s called Everest, Sagarmatha or Chomolungma, admiring the highest peak on the planet is a spectacle in itself. The Everest base camp excursion will end in Lukla.

ITINERARY mt everest base camp

DAY 01 - Kathmandu
DAY 02 - Kathmandu
DAY 03 - Kathmandu - Lukla (2840m) - Phakding (2430m)
DAY 04 - Phakding – Namche Bazaar (3450 m)

After an early breakfast we start the downhill trek bordering the Dhud Khosi river until the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park where we will carry out the required procedures and registrations. We will cross the suspension bridge and continue to the village of Jorsale, from there a continuous climb will take us to Namche Bazaar. Accommodation in a hostel. 6 hour walk.
DAY 05 - Acclimatization in Namche Bazaar
DAY 06 - Namche Bazaar - Tengboche (3890 m)

We leave early going up the steep streets of Namche. The path is amazing, it runs along the side of the mountain, with the river below, and contemplating views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and Taboche as a guide along the way. On the way we meet the long caravans of yaks, we descend through rhododendron forests to the river. We continue uphill, the effort is more than compensated when we reach Tengboche and visit the Buddhist gompa. The place is magical, beautiful and invites you to peace and meditation. It is the highest monastery in the world, located in a large meadow under Thanserku Peak (6,608 m) and Kangtega Peak (6,685 m.). Accommodation in a hostel. 6 hour walk.
DAY 07 - Tengboche - Dingboche (4450 m)

We will go down a path between pines and rhododendrons, we will cross a suspension bridge, to the right, the raging river descends from an incomparable view, Mt Ama Dablám. We arrive at the village of Somare, the journey is up and down through valleys, the landscape turns lunar, the thaws have left their mark on the white mountains. Embedded at the end of a valley, the town of Dingboche, at the entrance a Buddhist stupa welcomes us. The panorama is spectacular (Pumori, Nuptse, Island Peak). Accommodation in a hostel. 6 hour walk.
DAY 08 - Acclimatization in Dingboche
DAY 09 - Dingboche - Lobuche (4930 m)

From the valley, in an upward direction, a highland area surrounded by mountains, we´ll enjoy the landscape while we stop for tea. We will cross the river and reach Thukla, we ascend to a flatness where we can enjoy the wonders that the Himalayas offer: the Pumori and the Nuptse. Bordering a stream we arrive at Lobuche, a picturesque little town. Accommodation in a hostel. 3 hour walk.
DAY 10 - Lobuche - Everest Base Camp (5364m)

Very early we start the trek towards Everest Base Camp, our great objetive. We ascend through the Khumbu valley to Gorakshep. We continue towards Base Camp. We are walking above 5,000 meters so we´ll go slowly and enjoy the path between two glaciers. Upon arrival we will experience unrepeatable emotions. We will be in a mythical place, meet mountaineers from different corners of the planet. From there the mountaineers try to conquer the roof of the world. We will walk in front of the fantastic Khumbu Waterfall and then rest while we are awed by the unique sound produced by the falling ice. We have reached the end of the last road in the world. We sleep in Base Camp. Total walk of 8 and a half hours.
DAY 11 - Kala Pattar (5580m) - Dingboche (4410m)

Very early in the morning we are headed towards the peak of Kala Pattar. We will be warmly dressed and we will walk very slowly to the top, the highest point of the route. The path culminates on a cusp crowned by the prayer flags; we are at the closest point to contemplate Mount Everest from the Nepalese side. Although the protagonism is shared with the Nuptse peak (7,861 m.) that appears in the foreground on the Khumbu glacier. The 360-degree stage is appealing to look at. We start to descend the road towards Dingboche. The day is intense, although the path is pleasant on the edge of a stream, shepherds’ houses and with the colors of the sunset. We sleep in a hostel. 9 hour walk.
DAY 12 - Return Dingboche – Namche Bazaar
DAY 13 - Return Namche Bazaar - Phakding - Lukla

The road crosses Ghat and Thadokosi, the union of two rivers of great flow on the suspension bridge will allow us to enjoy a wonderful moment. We will ascend in the direction of Lukla. Something from us has stayed on the path that has led us through the Khumbu Glacier towards the most impressive cirque of mountains on the planet. A strange feeling invades us, between sadness and joy, a feeling of nostalgia, unforgettable images of great beauty have stayed in our memory. Accommodation in a hostel. 7 hour walk.
DAY 14 - Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu

We say goodbye to the Khumbu Valley. We will take the plane from the dizzying Lukla airport to fly to Kathmandu. Arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure: we recommend taking advantage of the day to walk and buy souvenirs in Thamel, visit the huge and famous Buddhist stupa in Bodhnat, which is one of the most revered places by Tibetan Buddhists residing in Nepal. Move to Pashupatinath, that is the main Hindu temple in Nepal, on the banks of the Bagmati River, in the ghats of the sacred river cremations and ritual baths are carried out. Hotel accommodation.
DAY 15 - Kathmandu - Free day
DAY 16 - Back home from Kathmandú
